Travel from London airports

Travelling from the major London airports and railway stations to Hampstead School is very convenient.  Here we have provided general information on our recommended travel routes.  We can also arrange a transfer service for our students.  Please contact   or visit Reception at school for more details. 

Heathrow

By tube:

Heathrow is serviced by the Piccadilly Line which is part of the London Underground network.  There are three underground stations at Heathrow Airport one for Terminals 1,2 and 3, one for Terminal 4 and one for Terminal 5.  All of these stations are in Zone 6.  You can buy a single ticket from the ticket office at these stations. You can also buy your Oyster Card there if you wish to.  The journey to Finchley Road underground station is as follows:

  •  Heathrow Terminals to Green Park by Piccadilly Line (Around 50 minutes)
  • Change at Green Park to the Jubilee Line and take this line to Finchley Road Station (Around 12 minutes)

By Heathrow Express:

The Heathrow Express is a frequent rapid rail link between Heathrow and Paddington Station. The journey from Heathrow to Paddington takes around 15 minutes and it is the fastest way to reach central London from Heathrow airport. Once you arrive at Paddington it is easy to find a taxi and the black cabs are the most reliable London taxis.  Alternatively, you can take the Circle line from Paddington to Baker Street and the change to the Metropolitan line for Finchley Road station.

Stansted

By Stansted Express bus:

The easiest way to reach north London from Stansted is by the Stansted Express bus service.  This 24-hour service runs approximately once every 15 minutes and takes about 45 minutes to reach Golders Green. This service also stops at Finchley Road and Baker Street.  Tickets can be booked in advance from the website or purchased on board.

Luton

By Green Line bus:

Green Line run a 24-hour bus service between Central London and Luton Airport.  This bus runs once every 15 minutes and takes about 45 minutes to reach Luton from Finchley Road.  This bus also stops at the top of Hendon Way, ideal for students staying in our local area and in our studio apartments.  Tickets can be purchased in advance though the website or on board.

City Airport

By tube and DLR:

City Airport can be reached in about 40 minutes by tube and DLR (Docklands Light Railway).  You can take the Jubilee Line from Finchley Road to Canning Town sation and then change to the DLR.  From Canning Town you can then catch the DLR to London City Airport DLR station.  You can check the Transport for London website for service updates and timetables and the City Airport Guide for details of airport services.

Gatwick

By Local Train:

First Capital Connect run local trains from West Hampstead Thameslink Station to Gatwick Airport although for most services you will need to change at London Bridge station.  This journey will generally take around one and a half hours. The Gatwick Airport Guide has detailed information about travelling into London from the airport and the services that are offered.

By Gatwick Express:

The Gatwick Express is a high speed non-stop service between London Gatwick and Victoria station.  This service takes 30 minutes and leaves once every 15 minutes.  Tickets can be purchased from the station or online.  From Victoria you can catch the number 82 bus to Finchley Road or alternatively you can make the journey by tube.

St Pancras International

By Tube:

St Pancras International is the new home of the Eurostar and is London's central gateway to Europe.  St Pancras is linked with Kings Cross station which is served by the Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria, Circle and Hammersmith and City lines.  The Metropolitan line takes approximately 20 minutes from Finchley Road to Kings Cross.  You can use the Transport for London website to check for service updates and timetable information.
