At ELC London: Hampstead School of English we recognise that the environment, communities and cultures within which we operate are vital to the success of our school.
Responsible Leadership is one of our core values, and underlines our commitment to sustainable development and to making a positive impact on society.
We therefore commit in the long term to:
• Establish sustainable development principles into core business practices throughout the organisation
• Understand and respect the needs of our students, colleagues, shareholders, suppliers, industry partners and local communities
• Comply with all relevant legislation, act in advance of it where possible, and keep pace with best practice
In support of the above, we will work to:
• Prevent pollution wherever possible, and continually improve our environmental performance
• Optimise our organisation’s environmental, economic and social impact, by embedding sustainability
• into our supply chain and initiating activities that protect and restore the natural environment and
enhance local livelihoods
• Provide information, training and support to colleagues, gaining their commitment to taking action
on sustainable development issues
• Encourage our students to make more sustainable leisure travel decisions
We are constantly working to put our responsibilities into action and are proud of the following ways in which we are currently helping to support sustainable development:
• 90% of all school waste is recycled
• Energy saving light bulbs are in place throughout the school
• Timed taps with automatic switch off for water saving are in place throughout the school
• Our office is 90% paper free
• We are working towards paper free classrooms
• We regularly hold events in support of local, national and international charities
The managers of our school cafeteria:
• Use ingredients which are in season whenever possible
• Use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible
• Make all sandwiches and hot meals locally and by hand
• Ensure there are vegetarian options available
• Use free-range eggs
• Keep waste to a minimum and recycle as much waste as possible
